To promote the vitality of the city of Hartford as a unique urban place, the Knox Foundation has made the
following grants to help build community:
The West Indian Foundation, Inc.: The
Knox Foundation has supported the YOUTH DAY CELEBRATION held in Keney Park every summer.
Lift Every Voice and Sing (LEVAS): The
Knox Foundation has supported the LEVAS Annual Gospel Festival and Fair held in Bushnell Park.
Hartbeat Ensemble: The Knox Foundation
has supported Hartbeat’s Middle School Summer Theater Project.
Genesis “College is a Must” Program: The
Knox Foundation grant covered the cost of tickets for Jumoke Academy Charter School students to
attend the University Choir concerts.
The Shelter for Women – Gray Lodge & Alison
Gill Lodge: The Knox Foundation grant supported publication of Girl Power: Girls Rhyme
Their World, a poetry collection by young women staying in the shelter.
Sports and Medical Sciences Academy: The
Knox Foundation has supported the Academy’s youth football camp.
Heads Up, Hartford: The Knox Foundation
grant bought building materials used in a community works program.
Community Partners in Action: The Knox
Foundation grant purchased holiday related items for women and children in the Resettlement
Program.
Leadership Greater Hartford City Promotion
Task Force: A Knox Foundation grant supported publication of a pamphlet promoting
Hartford neighborhoods.
Capitol Child Development Center: The
Knox Foundation grant bought resource materials for a library for children and their parents.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.: The
Knox Foundation grant supported participation of Hartford youth in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta
Academy Program for Girls interested in math and science.
Community Renewal Team: The Knox
Foundation has supported CRT’s Operation Fuel program, which subsidizes heating costs for the
poor.
Doc Hurley Scholarship Foundation: The
Knox Foundation has supported Doc Hurley in its educational scholarships, mentoring and
employment support programs for Hartford youth.
